Day 31: March 1st, 2010
Scott Von

Scott Von’s music starts at the place where Jack Johnson turned around and decided it was time to go surfing again. He writes at the crossroads where roots music meets american folk while adding a boot stomping groove and killer guitar work. He show is something not to be missed described as “a pure, unfettered, joyful expression of life.” When Scott takes the stage, people can’t help but pay attention.

So Mr. Von wrote me a couple days ago and said, 'let's write about sleep."   I pretty quickly translated that into dreams.   I don't know much else to write about this one.  Dreams have an odd logic that I was trying my best to apporoximate in my song.   They sort of flow and change more by emotion than time.  The images that are created in them don't make a lot of sense but have a feeling veracity all the same, at least while we're still dreaming.  Basically I looked through a lot of the images that I'd slapped together over the last last month and took the ones that felt like things my subconscious might entertain me and tried to string them together with some action.

Timmy Riordan

Timmy has been called ‘the hidden gem” of the Somerville/Cambridge music scene. In February 2009 he wrote and posted 28 songs on his website. This year he’s doing it again.  He has also decided there should be 8 day in a week (in honor of the Beatles of course) and has invited 32 of his songwriting friends to support him through the month by each writing a song themselves. Over the last summer he recorded 8 of those songs on a CD entitled “Peter Let Me In.” Each CD includes an original cover, hand-drawn just for you in Sharpie by Timmy. Proceeds from this hand-crafted album are all going directed to the making of “New York’s Ignoring Me” his next studio album to be released in summer of 2010.
