Day 16: February 14th, 2010
Danielle Doyle

Danielle, who seems to be channeling a bit of Gillian Welch and Patty Griffin simultaneously, has been quickly and quietly turning heads at open mics and venues throughout the Boston area. Her songs are about love, home, longing, and a little bit of murder.  They are filled with brilliant imagery and soft-spoken honesty. Make sure to see her live where her beautiful melodies and rich lyrics are interspersed with her quirky, quick-witted banter. She is currently working on her debut EP “The Cartogrpher’s Wife” which is due out in spring of 2010.

Timmy Riordan

Timmy has been called ‘the hidden gem” of the Somerville/Cambridge music scene. In February 2009 he wrote and posted 28 songs on his website. This year he’s doing it again.  He has also decided there should be 8 day in a week (in honor of the Beatles of course) and has invited 32 of his songwriting friends to support him through the month by each writing a song themselves. Over the last summer he recorded 8 of those songs on a CD entitled “Peter Let Me In.” Each CD includes an original cover, hand-drawn just for you in Sharpie by Timmy. Proceeds from this hand-crafted album are all going directed to the making of “New York’s Ignoring Me” his next studio album to be released in summer of 2010.

Annie Wenz decided early on that she was going to write an "anti-Valentines" song on February 15th which made me think I ought to balance things out by having at least one "Valentine's Day" song in the Song Bomb.
I always avoid Valentine's Day like the plague, in so much as one can avoid a plague. On the other hand, a girl I've been working with for a year or so always asks me where her song is. I always that say that I'm trying to perfect it and can't reveal it until it's ready--a la Norther Winslow in "Big Fish". I decided since I'm writing a song every day this month anyway, I might as well do one for her. I've always loved South American guitar and played a bit of it back when I fancied myself a classical guitarist.
